A participatory laboratory for embodied exploration through movement and play

Cuerpo Vivo was a four-session participatory laboratory with the aim of creating an open environment where people of all backgrounds could explore connection, expression and awareness through movement, play and embodied practices. Participants engaged in individual and collective exercises inspired by theatre and performative dynamics, while also contributing their own practices to a shared and evolving set of activities. The laboratory fostered a safe space for experimentation, encouraging body awareness, mutual support and collective expression.

The concept

Cuerpo Vivo was a four-session participatory laboratory co-designed and facilitated at ANDA Cowork socio cultural space in Granada, conceived as an open and accessible space for collective exploration through the body. The encounters aimed to offer an open and accessible space for people of all backgrounds, regardless of their prior experience in theatre, dance or movement practices.

The initiative aimed to reposition theatre and embodied dynamics not as niche artistic disciplines, but as everyday tools for self and group connection, awareness, play and shared expression. Through guided exercises inspired by movement, play, and performative practices, participants explored themes such as gravity, care, imagination, and interdependence, alternating between individual, pair, and group activities.

A key component of the project was its participatory structure: participants were invited to share and facilitate their own practices, contributing to a collective and evolving document that gathered exercises, reflections, and new proposals. This transformed the laboratory into a space of shared authorship rather than passive participation.

Cuerpo Vivo functioned as a safe and informal environment where people could release tension, experiment freely, reconnect with their bodies, and use movement as a space for listening, play, and mutual support, strengthening both individual awareness and collective bonds.
